How does this work?Back to Top
After deciding on the theme you want, our artisan (artist/technician) will custom, hand apply the mural to your ceiling(s). This custom work of art uses a chemical type paint that absorbs certain wavelengths of light and “charges” or holds it by use of special tiny crystals. Once no light is present, the material begins to slowly emit the stored light producing a mystical glowing effect that creates the illusion of stars. Your StarBrite mural can be “charged” by sunlight or regular incandescence light. A black light can be used for a quicker charge.
Is the material dangerous?Back to Top
The material we use is non-toxic and water based, so you can be assured your family, kids or pets will not be exposed to any hazardous chemicals. They're also odorless and produce no noxious fumes. Therefore, you or your children can safely sleep in their rooms the first night after we complete the stars for them!
How much does it cost?Back to Top
The cost of a mural depends on a number of factors: the theme you want, the size of the room and ceiling height and type. Most pricing can be found with our various themes. Please contact us for more specific details or questions.
How long does it take to create a mural?Back to Top
The time required to create a ceiling mural depends on the size of the job, the complexity of the theme and the type of ceiling you have. Larger rooms and more complicated themes require more time. Flat or lightly textured ceilings are the easiest on which to work, and thus require less time. We can also create murals of the stars on acoustic or "popcorn" ceilings; however it is more difficult and time-consuming. It may not be possible to render some features, such as shooting stars, on such highly textured ceilings.
In most cases our artisan (artist/technician) can complete the job in less than 4 hours per ceiling. Once the job is complete, you can begin using the room immediately. The material dries in an hour or so, and is completely odorless - there are no fumes and no smell.
What preparation is required?Back to Top
Very minimal! We ask that before your job appointment, you should run a dust mop over the ceiling to remove dust and any cobwebs that may be present. We will need room to move a step ladder around, but moving furniture is not necessary in most cases. We use drop cloths as necessary, to cover beds and other furniture. Breakable items and any valuables or anything you need in the room while we are there must be removed.
Is it possible to watch?Back to Top
No. Our application techniques are proprietary and we need to work uninterrupted, so we require absolute privacy while working. Once we enter a room to begin working, you will not have further access to that room until the mural is complete. For that reason, you must remove any items you need, or may need, while I am painting. Also, we require that all valuables and breakable items be removed before we begin work. We will require you to sign a consent form stating that all personal and valuable items have been removed from the room before we begin.

The material we use dries to a semi-transparent, milky off-white color. On most ceilings, white or beige, the stars will be totally invisible during the day. Someone that did not know a mural was on the ceiling would never know it was there if they never saw the room in the dark. And, since the material is nearly invisible by day on the vast majority of ceilings, our murals will not interfere with the current decorating scheme of any room!
The darker the color of the ceiling, the more likely that the material will begin to show. You could repaint your ceiling a light (or white) color prior to having us do the work. Otherwise, you must decide if you could live with the slight showing of the material in darker color ceiling situations.
What if I want to get rid of it?Back to Top
I’m not sure anyone would ever want to do that, but if that were the case it can be painted over with regular ceiling paint.
