You could, of course, just rip out your old bathtub. However, for the average homeowner, this entire process could take several weeks to complete from start to finish.

• Tearing out the tile around the tub and possibly replacing the backer board.
• Removal and replacing the drain, overflow and possibly the faucets which
  may require a plumber.
• Possibly removing the toilet, vanity and maybe even the door frame itself.
• Possibly replacing the flooring if it gets damaged or is not covered by the new tub.
• The installation of a new tub without damaging it.
• Replacing/rebuild the walls and retile and regrout once the new tub is in place.
• Hoping the new tub drain and plumbing line up with the old plumbing.
• Reinstalling the vanity, toilet and hooking up the plumbing.
  

You could spend your vacation time to do the work or have it professionally done. The average cost to have it professionally done usually ranges from $2000-$5000.
